Week 9 Dev Log (06/03/2023– 13/03/2023)

Overview Of This Week

Since all of my fundamentals tasks with all of my stretch goals have been completed, I started my planning for what type of game that I am going to make for my indie game project with the use of market research as well as thinking of inspirations of games that I have played throughout my life. I also started a GDD for my game on the latter half of the week.

Planning my Indie Game Project

Throughout this week, I had to decide what type of game that I would create. I landed with the idea of a game that I am going to name Made-Man. The decision was between Made-Man and making an unreal remake of a Call Of Duty Zombies map by the name of “Kino Der Toten”.

Made-Man will be a magical-mobster type game most likely set in an era between the 20’s and 30’s. Due to project restraints, I will have to make it a rogue-like. I came up with the name as the meaning of it is mafia based with the oxford dictionary having a meaning of, “a man who has been formally inducted as a full member of the Mafia”. I have many inspirations that I have for this game, however the most major ones are from a game called Fallout 2 which has one of the major side stories having the main character interact with mob families in a mob ruled city which I really enjoyed playing. I also have a song I really like from an old artist by the name of Fats Domino called “Blueberry Hill” that I think represents the types of moods and themes that this game will try to explore. The magical elements in the game are from the fact that I love fantasy and magic in general as a theme.

Game Design Document (GDD)

On the latter half of this week, I researched how other GDD’s were made and finally came up with the type of elements that I would add into my GDD as well as the overall theme. I ended up, also, making the title with a custom logo and the first page synopsis of the game. How they look will be showed below:
